Discord adds Slack-style conversation threads

The Slack-style feature is currently in early testing with bot developers.

Large Discord servers can be a nightmare to follow. Fortunately, the chat client has started testing Threads, temporary sub-channels that will let you open a sidebar to continue the conversation peacefully.

Discord, announced exclusively by our sister site TechRadar, has introduced Threads in a very limited capacity. Testing is limited to bot developers currently on servers with less than 5 users and 1 bot (to ensure the feature doesn't break compatibility).

However, TechRadar has provided access to such a test server. And in practice, Discord's threads work almost the same as a similar feature in Slack. Pressing a button below any message will effectively open a brand new channel in the sidebar.

After a certain amount of time, the thread is automatically archived, but administrators can revive them at any time. Conversations can be pinned like any other message, making them always instantly available.

Discord has previously tried to resolve channel clutter with replies, making it clearer that a message is directly replying to a previous post. But with some of the major channels moving at such an incredible speed, the idea of stepping into a topic for a breather isn't welcome.
